Sri Lanka, a diverse country in a small island
Tracey travelled to Sri Lanka earlier this year. Expecting a country very similar to India, Tracey was very pleasantly surprised to find a very friendly, safe country that has so much to offer. From the temples and historic landmarks to soaring over the countryside in a hot air ballon near Sigiriya Lion Rock Fortress, each day brought a new sense of wonderment. Whilst there were some crowds, there was a complete absence of hecticness, just an overwhelming sense of politeness. When surprised by a wild elephant walking out of the jungle along the roadside, no-one seemed bothered by the bus driver simply stopping and holding up traffic, so that a busload of tourists could watch the elephant enjoying his lunch.
Tracey’s particular highlights were picking tea in the plantations high in the hills and exploring the old fort city of Galle. But she also thoroughly enjoyed finishing the trip with a few beach days, right next to a Turtle Sanctuary. No matter your interests, Sri Lanka has something for you.
